Take control of your health and wellbeing

Feeling tired all the time no matter how much sleep you get? Have trouble falling or staying asleep? Take the quiz to discover how stress might play a role and what to do about it.

Why choose Dr. Marta Canfield?

I’ve become known for my caring and compassionate approach to chronic stress, overwhelm, and fatigue. Patients have had life-changing breakthroughs that didn't require taking more and more medications. My unique approach to diagnosing and treating diseases and disorders recognizes that lasting health depends on resolution of the root causes of your dis-ease.

Women’s Hormonal Health

One focus of my private practice is women's hormonal health.

What does that mean?

It means I was seeing the same concerns over and over again in my mostly women patient practice. I felt I had a chance to help women learn what their hormones are and do to empower them to make health decisions rather than feeling dismissed.

Hormonal Health doesn't just focus on estrogen.

Progesterone, Testosterone, along with Thyroid hormones, Adrenal hormones, and Metabolic hormones are important. These hormones do not act alone in a vacuum, they are interacting with every system in the body. In other words, Women's Hormonal Health is Whole Woman Health. When I say women, I refer to someone who was assigned female at birth.

The hormonal problems my patients encounter include:

Pre-menstrual syndrome, Irregular Periods, Fertility concerns (PCOS etc.), Overweight/Obesity/Metabolic Syndrome & Diabetes Type 2, Adrenal fatigue and Thyroid disorders plus many gastrointestinal concerns and symptoms.

Hi, I’m Dr. Marta Canfield.

Since I was a teenager, I had awful, debilitatingly painful periods along with significant gut issues. It took 10 years of trial and error and finding the right doctors to help me get diagnosed with endometriosis and interstitial cystitis. In 2003, I had surgery with an endometriosis specialist and was able to finish medical school. Then I experienced fertility challenges when my husband and I were trying to get pregnant. I tried conventional fertility treatments and they failed causing significant anxiety and stress. I knew there had to be something missing. Researching diet and lifestyle changes, I balanced my hormones myself and had two babies naturally!

Board-Certified Family Medicine Physician

In primary care we are generalists. I tell patients we are trained to be the gatekeepers and know a little about a lot of things. With time we become experts in different conditions or niches in medicine.  I practice primary care with an integrative approach. This means I try to minimize the number of antibiotics I prescribe and treat conservatively until we need to be more aggressive in diagnosis, which could mean more testing and medications over my first line of nutrition and lifestyle changes. As a licensed physician in 11 states, including NY state and Pennsylvania, I can prescribe medications, order blood work and x-ray studies plus refer to specialists, if needed. (See bottom of page for current states I am licensed in.)

*Even though I do not have a private primary care panel anymore, I always make sure to use my knowledge from conventional medicine in these integrative consults. In turn, you may need to see your Primary Care Provider if we determine there is something that needs to be explored as part of your treatment that I do not do as a consultant.*

Patient Testimonial

“I always feel validated in my experiences and questions. Symptoms are not just “treated.” Dr. Canfield teaches patients to look for triggers and patterns to assist in identifying root causes and then treatment avenues are discussed. My ability to advocate for myself with specialists and understand my own body has improved my overall well-being tenfold. I would highly recommend Dr. Canfield’s Women’s Hormonal Health services and membership.”
